France, no longer considered an ally of the US, may very well have a more rational way of dealing with the radicals in its midst than Britain or the US. For some other background, see this article by Daniel Pipes. The French do see things differently, don't they?
We see what the Islamists are actually after: read this post and follow the links. Can you imagine getting lashed with a cane 80 times for taking a drink? Or having to ride on buses segregated by sex? Or teenage girls who get pregnant being beaten in public with the sanction of the court?
Sharia is imposed on all Muslims even if they want to be tried in a constitutionally mandated court, thus subverting Nigeria's democratic order; Sharia legitimizes the killing of Muslims who exercise their right to change their religion; Sharia results in corporal punishment or death sentences for women for alleged sexual crimes, whereas men are invariably not punished; Non-Muslims are barred from being judges, prosecutors, and lawyers in the sharia courts to which they can be subject, thus making them second-class citizens. Though some form of sharia has long been part of Nigeria's civil law, some Nigerian states are expanding sharia jurisdiction to criminal law matters in ways that violate Nigeria's constitution and international human rights standards.
I have told you before: you should be reading this blog, if you want to know what's happening on the ground in Iraq. Michael Yon is a brave reporter, and is not afraid to present the entire picture--warts and all. And he does so from a very personal perspective--he gets to know the soldiers, what they do, what they are saying, etc. Just keep scrollin'.

So we have to use this convenient form. A taste:
Make no mistake: no one should be fooled by the administration's public relations efforts or ___JOHN ROBERTS___ 's seemingly "moderate" appearance. ___JOHN ROBERTS___ has a record that suggests that ___HE___ would deny women the right to reproductive choice, stop important life-saving medical stem cell research by extending the Patriot Act to draft their unwanted fetuses, and turn these conscripted fetuses over to dangerous tax-supported 'Creationist' religious indoctrination laboratories. The Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment, and America needs to know whether ___JOHN ROBERTS___ supports the GOP's secret plan of a Rush Limbaugh Jesus army of unwanted, unquestioning fetus zombies programmed to urinate on the Korans of Guantanamo detainees.

We all know that Kofi Annan is growing "increasingly concerned" about the situation in, say, Darfur, where hundreds of folks are getting killed each day. Now we know what his expressions of concern mean.
It would be much funnier if it weren't so true.

An old mainstay of the criminal justice system has been breaking into the Catholic Church and drinking the holy water.
I have been linking to Victor Davis Hanson a lot about Iraq, but that's because he knows what he's talking about.
Read it all.
‘war never solved anything’ and ‘violence only begets violence.’ Thus it makes no sense to resort to violence, since reason and conflict resolution can convince even a bin Laden to come to the table. That most evil has ended tragically and most good has resumed through armed struggle — whether in Germany, Japan, and Italy or Panama, Belgrade, and Kabul — is irrelevant. Apparently on some past day, sophisticated Westerners, in their infinite wisdom and morality, transcended age-old human nature, and as a reward were given a pass from the smelly, dirty old world of the past six millennia.

The shoes of the iceman. Read and enjoy the manolo.
At the Mudville Gazette, we get an update on the tactics of the Iraq "resistence"--and the important role killing children has been given. These are Michael Moore's minutemen. Just keep scrolling and read it all.
"Most of them are children. The Americans were handing out sweets at the time of the attack," a duty policeman at the Kindi Hospital said.
"We have received the bodies of 24 children aged between 10 and 13," said an official in charge of the morgue.
Abu Hamed whose 12-year-old son Mohammed was killed, said: "I was at home. I heard the explosion. I rushed outside to find my son. I only found his bicycle."
He found his son in the hospital morgue.
"I recognized him from his head. The rest of the body was completely burnt."

She's talking about running down a long hill with a bunch of angry and scared bulls. I'm not sure she's thinking at all.
Read the whole thing. A taste for you?
In WWII we didn’t care much whether in fighting Bushido some thought we were in a war against Buddhists. We weren’t, and that was enough.
We knew the enemy were Nazis, not simply Germans, and didn’t froth and whine to prove that distinction.
But not now.
To criticize Islamic fascism is supposedly to be unfair to Islam, so we allow on our own shores mullahs and madrassas to spread hatred and intolerance, as part of our illiberal acceptance of “not offending Islam.”
It is not that we don’t believe in Western values as much as we don’t even know what they are anymore. The London bombings were only a reification of what goes on daily with impunity blocks away in the mosques and Islamist schools of London.
The enemy knows that and thrives on it. That refuge in religion is why imams shout that “Islam doesn’t condone such things” — even as bin Laden has become a folk hero on the Arab Street. Jihadists sense that even here at home more Americans are more concerned about a flushed Koran at Guantanamo Bay than five Americans fighting for the Iraqi jihadists or Taliban sympathizers in Lodi, California.

This is hilarious. Remember, Dr. Dean told us that there was "huge vote fraud" in Ohio, and then when challenged, claimed there was "huge voter suppression" by Republicans. Of course, we all know that the places with the "problems" described by Dr. Dean are run by Democratic politicians. Now we find out that the Democrats commissioned their own investigation to show that the mean and corrupt Republicans committed grave crimes against our democracy. The results?
"Overwhelmingly," this report said, "these problems were reportedly traced primarily" to four Democratic political allies who supported Mr. Kerry: ACORN, America Coming Together, the AFL-CIO and the NAACP National Voter Fund.

Kate Spade is lovely in many ways; in fact the Daytimer has been known to sport a KS item or two, which is decidedly not tough, like a good paramedic should be. However, this thing is the worst looking thing she's ever seen, and would likely send the damn ipod on strike at such public humiliation. Ms. Spade should stick to the katy collection, and leave the gold crinkly alone...maybe she could design a calfskin medic jump kit that would be less offensive.
